Biden calls Buttigieg’s husband ‘Kirsten,’ snubs gay GOP Cabinet member

President-elect Joe Biden on Wednesday mangled his rollout of Pete Buttigieg as the “first” gay Cabinet nominee — using a female name for Buttigieg’s husband and omitting mention of President Trump having named the first gay Cabinet-level member.

Biden noted his fondness for Buttigieg’s husband “Kirsten” during a speech in Wilmington, Del., as he formally named the former South Bend, Indiana, mayor as his nominee for transportation secretary.

Biden also snubbed Ric Grenell, who Trump celebrated this year as the first gay Cabinet member when he worked three months as acting Director of National Intelligence.

Man, Biden seemed to bend over backwards to insult Peter by doing this. He should now drop to his knees and beg Peter for forgiveness. I'll bet Peter would accept Joe's apology as long as he didn't get in his face. But that might be hard for Joe to do and difficult for Peter to swallow. Maybe he could just write Peter an apologetic letter and put it in the mail. Or perhaps he could meet Peter at his house and smoke the pipe in peace like the Indians did back in the day. Another alternative would be for Joe to invite Peter over for a sumptuous meal of sausage and corn on the cob, served the long way.

Who knows who was the first homosexual Cabinet member. In the old days people did their best to keep something like that secret. James Buchanan is suspected of having been a homosexual (only circumstantial evidence, I think, nothing definitive), but that was before the term "gay" was used. (They usually cite the movie Bringing Up Baby for the earliest known case of "gay" being used to mean "homosexual" although presumably it had been used for some time by homosexuals among themselves with that meaning.) Buchanan was Secretary of State for the Polk administration.
