Did you never have unusually strong feelings of nausea after a heavy meal or any of the other classic symptoms before that one stone episode?
Nope, total surprise. Perhaps if that stone wasn’t in the exact right place and just the right size at exactly the moment I bumped open the gate I could have gone another year before overt symptoms?
I’d just gotten off the light rail on the way home for the first day of a long delayed vacation. In my enthusiasm and exuberance I did hit the gate off the platform pretty smartly.
