Someone who can explain without being smart alecky or condenscending...the “alternative electors” and how this works?

As I understand it, they are the people who were designated to be Trump's electors if he won the state; they convened and voted in order to be available if the Biden electors are successfully challenged in Congress when it convenes to tally and approve the electoral votes.
