The fact that this is how America deals with its elderly is proof of how sick of a society it is.
Both of my husband’s grandmothers were in nursing homes. One was there because no one had space set up for her to go to family home, but that was remedied. She passed away in daughter’s home.
Other grandmother did not want to burden people by going to their homes. She died at the hospital after multiple falls at the nursing home. Husband’s mom and dad offered their home, though.
Husband’s father died in nursing home setting. Son could not quit job to care for him, not could daughter-in-law. Others did not have space. Dad sold his house to move in with above son.
All of my parents and grandparents passed in care of family in own homes, or homes of family members.
You are lacking in imagination and/or empathy.
Some people simply don't want to be bothered with the crazy-azz antics of these mean old b*tches and b*astards. They are fed up!
Some people have legitimate beefs with their "elders" - years of abuse and/or neglect during childhood, decades of passive-aggressive drama as young / mature adults.
Regards,
People are living longer now. Sometimes well into the 90s. Their children are seniors too and many of them suffer health problems and are unable to tend to the care of the parents. If the family does not have the funds or big enough homes to have round the clock care, they often have no choice.
Wise to not pass judgement in a blanket sort of way.
