The Trump presidency is now destined to end with falsehoods -- a blizzard of baseless accusations about the election that he lost, as distilled into a final plea to the Supreme Court.
President Donald Trump's ask is for the nation's highest court to overturn the results of the election. As unlikely as he is to succeed, that breathtaking statement doesn't even encapsulate the principles at stake that will matter long after President-elect Joe Biden is inaugurated.
Some 106 House Republicans -- more than half the GOP conference -- are backing the president's effort to get the Supreme Court to step in. More than that number continue to resist labeling Biden "president-elect," just three days before the Electoral College will cement Biden's victory based on certified results from every state.
So much of the Trump era is ephemeral and transactional. Some Trump loyalists will essentially pretend as if Trump never existed, or that his smashing of conservative principles in service to Trumpism wasn't what it was.
But some of those principles -- of federalism, the rule of law and even basic democracy and common sense -- are still at stake at this moment.
Trump once famously promised to his supporters that they would be "sick and tired of winning" one day. Now, though, what Trump is losing could outlast the limited days of his presidency.

What Trump and Republicans want is to rule on the demonstratively provable election fraud. The slight-of-hand narrative the corrupt MSM is has now purveyed is that Trump is trying to “overturn the election”. This is completely false but gives comfort and cover to the emotionally lunatic left.

And this folks is why we are likely to have a hot civil war in the future. How can we live alongside people like this who are incapable or rational thought, are totally corrupt, and will say anything and do anything to destroy one man even if it means destroying the nation. That is what the democrats and media have become. Despite actual evidence of rampant fraud and cheating, which has been increasing over the decades, they refuse to acknowledge it.
The official position is that the White House expects the independent counsel’s inquiry to “conclude soon.”
But this phase of the Trump presidency is not controlled by President Donald Trump; it is controlled by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. He is acting like he’s just getting started – and like he already has the goods.
The two-pronged legal attack unveiled by Mueller was a show of force, not the tentative initial bid many expected. He already has an indictment handed down of a former Trump campaign manager and his top deputy, plus a guilty plea of a lower-level operative with quite a story to tell.
In a tale filled with incremental developments, the George Papadopoulos case is a big one. It suggests Mueller may already be able to prove collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian operatives.
The tale he tells and questions raised could prove more significant than anything that comes out of the prosecutions of Paul Manafort and Rick Gates.
Who at the campaign approved of his contacts with Russia?
What emails did they think they could get?
Are there others caught lying to the FBI?
Did Papadopoulos wear a wire?
