Is Our Second Civil War -- also a 'Forever War'?
Townhall.com ^ | December 11, 2020 | Pat Buchanan

When the Electoral College meets Monday, it will almost surely certify former Vice President Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States. And he will take the oath of office Jan. 20.

There is, nationally, a growing if grudging realization of that reality.

Yet millions of Americans will refuse to accept the legitimacy of that election and its outcome and will continue to believe, with President Donald Trump, that it was "rigged."

"Was the 2020 election stolen by the establishment to get rid of a president, Donald Trump, whom it loathed?" will be debated decades hence -- as are questions such as, "Did FDR have advance knowledge the Japanese were going to attack?" and, "Did Lee Harvey Oswald act alone in Dallas?"

That perception that something was afoot first arose in the minds of millions in the hours after the election on Nov. 3, when 83% of Republicans polled by Gallup said they did not believe reports of Trump's defeat.

Things perceived as real are real in their consequences.

And there was justification for that perception. Who was not stunned to learn that as Trump seemed to be pulling ahead in the voting count on Nov. 3, suddenly, around midnight, the vote counting appeared to stop in the crucial swing states, and we were told it would begin again early the next morning? Why the halt?

Again, things perceived as real are real in their consequences.

The Washington Post reports this week that, midway between Election Day and Inauguration Day, only 27 congressional Republicans would acknowledge Biden's win. Some 220 GOP members of the House and Senate -- 88% of Republicans serving in Congress -- would not say who won the election

And Trump continues to fight on, millions behind him, to persuade public officials in such battleground states as Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada to withdraw their certifications.

He is said to be working the phones to get Republicans in Congress to reject the designation of Biden as president.

He has joined a suit by 17 states' attorneys general to have the Supreme Court accept Texas' argument that late alterations in the voting processes in four swing states be declared unconstitutional and illegal.

Among the more credible charges is that, due to the pandemic, late changes were made in the voting processes of states, especially with mailed-out and mailed-in ballots. The contention is that votes cast as a consequence of changes done contrary to state laws or constitutions should be thrown out. Most of those votes came from the urban precincts where Biden's margins were massive.

While some 50 lawsuits filed in Trump's cause may have been rejected in courts, the hourly allegations of fraud in the collection and counting of ballots have given credence to a generalized belief that Trump was cheated of votes he received and Biden received votes that were illicitly cast.

Where will this leave us Jan. 20?

American politics will be even more poisoned and polarized than it has been for the last four years. Tens of millions of Americans will see themselves as disfranchised and believe that the greatest champion they have had in decades was illegally driven from power by the same deep state-media conspiracy he fought for four years.

Reinforcing this perception is the sudden revelation this week that Biden's son Hunter is indeed the target of a federal tax investigation.

That is a story the mainstream media not only refused to cover but sought to bury. And it further buttresses a widespread belief that the mainstream media were in the tank for Biden and will use the power they have to fix the outcome of future American elections in favor of the establishment to which they belong.

For scores of millions of Americans, the mainstream media have lost any credibility and moral authority they once had.

The media have spent four years promoting the falsehood that Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump conspired to steal the 2016 election, a charge for which the two-year Robert Mueller investigation could not find any substance at all. They championed the cause of impeachment of Trump over a single comment in a phone call to the president of Ukraine.

And all the while, they painted Trump as racist, sexist, homophobic and treasonous, and his followers as torch-carrying deplorables.

The hypocritical calls from the mainstream media today for us all to come together, after the atrocities they perpetrated, boggle the mind.

Amazing. And now that the Democrats appear to have captured the White House, the message is, "Can't we all just get along?"

What lies ahead?

Some see secession. But though secession is unlikely, a secession of the heart has already taken place in America. We are two nations, two peoples seemingly separated indefinitely. Can a nation so divided as ours, racially, ideologically, religiously, still do great things together, as did the America of days gone by, to the amazement of the world?

An average length of time for representative forms of government is 250 years.

At that point, the elite are going to seize the reins of power, and the lower classes will cheer.

Belloc used to say people don’t want freedom, they want security. I used to think he was wrong, but by God he was right. The average person does not want the responsibility of their own fate. They are by in large, in capable of it.

The problem is, which Belloc never addressed, the people that take the power are just as stupid and short sighted. Once an empire removes political fighting by voting, as we are doing today, opponents have only violence left.

“Man, as a Southerner, don’t get me started on ol Abe.”

Well, say what you will about Abe, he must have been a genius. Pretty much educated himself and he did have the ability to express a very complicated idea into a few easily understood words.

The House Divided quote and the Gettysburg Address being two prime examples. And as a Southerner, do you ever wonder how the South would have fared during Reconstruction had Lincoln not been assassinated?

“The big question is not whether Biden will take the oath of office, but rather or not Trump will knowingly surrender the reins of power over to the nation’s enemies and ratify their blatant coup.

In other words, whether Trump will “abide by the rule of law” that was set up by those who have shredded rule of law.”

Funny how so many here who claim to be patriots are always putting the risk for fighting for liberty onto someone else. What the heck will you do cowboy? That is the million dollar question.

It was a shitty situation then with lots of factors bringing the problem to a head. It is a shitty situation now.

The one thing that the two situations have in common is that the moral foundation of one side is based on an immoral construct (slavery in 1860 and socialism in 2020). The other side in both cases was/is not morally snowy white; far from it. Still the basic underpinnings of one side are not morally bankrupt, while the of the other are.

I suspect world leaders are absolutely thrilled by all this. Those that want a return to the status quo are happy do have the bad orange man gone, those that are looking to overturn it are happy to have us at eachother’s throats.

A hot civil war may not be the shooting war we envision for such a conflict, yet. The divide is there. The separation from the MSM and misinformationists has begun. In time two separate platforms will guide the two parties concerned. Though we have the guns and the passion, things may progress in a direction unlike any warfare we have ever seen. Take over and the holding of bodies of government and legislatures, corporation headquarters, academia, etc. may confuse and stall the enemy into impotence. A stretching of first response services from hit and run incidences meant to stretch thin the response needed for a more potent and severe occurrence. Mass confusion of the MSM can cause panic and their own misinformation will flounder and discombobulated them drawing more sheepishly unaware citizens to our side further perplexing those who think they are in control. Actually this need not take years. This is new, never been seen before or envisioned warfare. We must think outside of the box. We have the brains, the numbers and equipment. The sharing of ideas and tactics over non social media internet domains (which has already started) will give us direction. We will need no central command or generals. We are the central command. The race is on.

I agree with you that he should wait and see how to electors vote and not jump prematurely to conclusions.

If they do the right thing they will delare President Trump the victor and not Biden.

I’m not convinced any political enormity would be enough to cause a civil war with the societal conditions we have now.

What past civil war can you envision still occurring if the poorest were the most likely to be obese and were the most passively entertained poor ever? As well as being the least used to sustained physical labor? I think the divide is real. But the Romans were pikers compared to us when it comes to our versions of bread and circuses.

John Wilkes Boothe did the South no favors by killing Lincoln. Reconstruction was a terrible time for everyone in the South. I believe Lincoln’s plans would have avoided many off the problems we have today.

“It’s on the ground where we will have trouble. We’re good as long as we don’t go there.”

The ChiComm supermen got their asses kicked by the Indian Gurkhas in Ladakh back in summer.

How did that happen?

I wish that I had faith in their doing the right thing. I don't.

I don't think they would stand up to the pressure of and for doing the right thing.

I’m talking just sheer numbers of them if they move on Taiwan. We have the means to minimize our casualties but that is not going to happen on the ground. Take them out by air (fitting because they tried to do that to us with the bio-warfare) and just litter the SCS with the hulks of the burning Chinese navy.

I’m sure a million Chinese parents watching their only sons drown in the South China Sea would be horrifying for them.

Follow the Sanctuaries for illegal aliens model. Anything liberals mandate, reject it as a city or state. No need to secede, but make it illegal to cooperate with liberals in power. For example, Second Amendment Sanctuaries already exist.
