FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - The U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana moved closer to a position on the federal bench on Thursday.
Thomas Kirsch received a vote of approval from the Senate Judiciary committee. His nomination by Pres. Donald Trump now moves to the full Senate for consideration.
If confirmed, Kirsch will succeed Judge Amy Coney Barrett, who was elevated to the U.S. Supreme Court. The vacancy is on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.
The confirmation would also then open the top spot at the local U.S. Attorney's Office.
That position could change hands regardless of the developments involving the 7th Circuit opening. A turnover in administration at the White House typically results in substantial changes in the ranks of U.S. Attorneys.

Obama had 55 in EIGHT years.
Good... now Lindsey Graham needs to PROMPTLY schedule a Judiciary Committee hearing on President Trump’s nominee to the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals vacancy. And Graham should schedule a Committee vote for him NLT the following week.
President Trump needs to nominate a replacement for that 2nd vacancy on the 7th CCA...just in case. For that vacancy I’d like to see the nominee be Judge Holly Brady who is a Trump appointed judge on the US District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. Based on her confirmation vote to the District Court the DemocRAT leftists hate Judge Brady.
