As researchers around the world search to find existing drugs that can be repurposed to treat COVID-19, the potential effectiveness of one drug was highlighted in a Senate hearing on early treatment for the virus.
Ivermectin is an approved anti-parasitic drug known to be effective against a variety of viruses like influenza, dengue, and Zika.
Dr. Pierre Kory, a pulmonary and critical care specialist, passionately testified Tuesday before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs during a hearing on "Early Outpatient Treatment: An Essential Part of a COVID-19 Solution."
In his testimony, Kory said data shows the ability of ivermectin to prevent COVID-19, as well as its ability to keep those with early symptoms from progressing to the hyper-inflammatory phase of the disease, and to help critically ill patients recover.
"People are dying at unacceptable and untold rates," Kory told the Senate panel. "I am a lung and ICU specialist, and all I do right now is take care of COVID-19 patients dying of breathlessness in ICUs. By the time they get to the ICU, it is nearly impossible to save most patients. They simply cannot breathe."
Kory is also president of the Frontline COVID-19 Critical Care (FLCCC) Alliance, a nonprofit made up of critical care experts and researchers from around the world. The organization was formed in March at the onset of the pandemic and has been “working tirelessly reviewing the world’s literature on almost every aspect of this disease,” Kory said.
He called upon the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to review the latest medical research on the drug as a COVID-19 treatment.
“I can’t help but get emotional,” Kory told NewsNOW from FOX following his testimony.

Kory called a lack of governmental guidance and research on effective early, preventive treatment “unconscionable” amid overwhelmed ICUs. Kory added that he believes ivermectin and a forthcoming coronavirus vaccine are “complimentary” in working to end the pandemic.
The NIH in August recommended that ivermectin only be used in clinical trials amid a lack of studies at the time. But Kory testified that much of the data reporting efficacy of ivermectin in the treatment and prevention of COVID-19 has been published since that time.
The FLCCC Alliance has compiled a manuscript detailing results from more than 20 studies on the subject, with more than 10 of them being randomized controlled trials.
One study published on Dec. 2 in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases found that a five-day course of ivermectin was found to be safe and effective in treating mild COVID-19 adult patients. The trial involved 72 hospitalized patients in Bangladesh, and researchers said larger trials are needed to confirm the preliminary findings.
Another large study, published in November as a preprint, found the addition of ivermectin to standard care to be a “very effective drug for treatment of COVID-19 patients with significant reduction in mortality compared to hydroxychloroquine plus standard treatment only.”

On the Mark Levin Show, Dr. Pierre Kory was interviewed and said that he testified in front of the US Senate’s Homeland Security Committee and blasted members that doubted the science he was presenting.
Kory reiterated that he was appalled that the drug research that he and his colleagues conducted on re-purposed drugs was not being considered or fast-tracked. He touted the evidence on Ivermectin as miraculous and declared that “if you take it, you will not get sick.”

It is so safe that is can be recommended to pregnant women. It is so safe that in many countries you can get it over-the-counter. The continent of Africa has had no problem with COVID because they take HCQ for malaria.
I am really tired of all this COVID crap. Either make the real cure available or just shut your mouths Gates and Fauxi.
February 2020. “Biden condemns Trump’s promotion of deadly HCQ and slams racist travel restrictions..”
February 2021. “Biden ends Trumps deadly ban on HCQ and enforces travel ban saving millions.”
What does any of what you said have to do with ivermectin?
LOL....in his basement dreams.
Two good friends of mine, both over the age of 70 and got the rona. They were lucky in that they caught it just before Fauxi slammed the hammer down on HCQ. They were quickly in and out of the hospital. I asked what the doctor had given them and they both said HCQ. Almost as soon as they were fine Fauxi and his hip-pocket media claimed that HCQ was too dangerous.
I do not understand why they should look elsewhere when the proven cure is right there.
I was shocked to hear that none of the CDC, NIH, and one other government org have undertaken any analysis of repurposed drugs, instead focusing on expensive new drugs.
I’ve read a few papers where the researchers have used computer analysis of existing drugs to identify those that might be successful against COVID.
Do we know if they are talking about pour on ivermectin like as what is used for livestock?
Good to know. However, is it expensive?
“People are dying at unacceptable and untold rates,” Kory told the Senate panel. “I am a lung and ICU specialist, and all I do right now is take care of COVID-19 patients dying of breathlessness in ICUs. I am a clinical pharmacist and know full well the protocols with ivermectin, doxycyline, zinc, vitamin D and C. My personal physician of whom I have 100% confidence can not treat me with this due to insane protocol restrictions. I am 72 years old and thus high risk. I have access and oddly legally to all these meds. If I get Covid I will treat myself and survive with little illness.
Odd story: Ivermectin is used for internal round worm parasites in animals and humans. It is the expensive med you use for your dogs to prevent heart roundworms. It is also very effective for scabies which is not a worm but oddly a subcutaneous infection of mites. A damn insect.
Recently in France was an outbreak of Scabies in a nursing home at the same time of a Covid 19 infection. They were treated for scabies with invermection and none died from Covid19. There should have been deaths but there were none.
ps
Generic ivermectin is very very cheap.
Being a pharmacist, would you treat yourself with hydroxychloroquine or with ivermectin?
Generic Stromectal is about $2.50 for a 3 mg tablet. A 12 mg dose is four tablets, about $10. So two 12 mg doses is $20.
the human formulation of it? Where do you get that?
[[Generic ivermectin is very very cheap.]]
Yes, but where do you get it? The pet formula might have other junk in it- that may not be so good for folks- Also- there is a precaution for folks with liver problems I believe?
Yes, that’s the human drug. Others on FR have said you buy a doctor consultation at America’s Frontline Doctors and they will prescribe it for you. Somebody wrote here that his wife was planning a trip to Africa and got the medicine there. Their site discusses HCQ but not Ivermectin.
https://www.americasfrontlinedoctors.com/hydroxychloroquine/
sorry- what i mean is, where can we get it without prescription? Docs very likely will not prescribe it for off label use like for covid- so we the public are out of luck,
