US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says he has imposed visa restrictions on Chinese officials and others who use "coercive tactics" on people seen as working against Chinese Communist Party interests.
Pompeo said in a statement on Friday that the party's United Front Work Department "frequently intimidates members of academia, businesses, civil society groups, and Chinese diaspora communities, including members of ethnic and religious minority communities" who speak out against human rights abuses in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Tibet, and elsewhere in China.
Pompeo said tactics by the United Front include the release of personal details online of their targets as a means of political intimidation.
The State Department has not released the number or names of the individuals sanctioned. But Pompeo said he will continue to implement visa restrictions "to make clear that those responsible for actions that contravene the rules-based international order are not welcome in the United States."
On Thursday, the State Department announced visas for Chinese Communist Party members and their families will be limited to a single entry with a duration of one month. Previously, they could apply for visas valid for 10 years.
The US is stepping up pressure on China ahead of next month's inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden
Winning.
Imagine if Biden were to become president.
Every classified top secret document will be handed over to the Chinese Communists (just like was done under Zero and Bubba the Rapist). Unlike in the past, he won’t have to try to hide it.
Keep the pressure on Mike. Don’t give these red snakes and their American operatives anything but enough rope to hang themselves for treason.
Love this guy!
A great start.
Next step: No student visa issued to Chinese nationals seeking to do graduate studies in sciences and engineering.
“Next step: No student visa issued to Chinese nationals seeking to do graduate studies in sciences and engineering.”
Which is too bad and sad.
It’s been 30 years now since I knew and worked with a lot of the early people who came from China to do academic research. They were not CCP agents and wanted to and were able to get out of China to do real science.
Over the decades the ChiComs have now exploited this to send agents and operatives.
Even back then there were a small percent who were acting as ChiCom eyes on the others. My friends knew who and they told me who.
Now it’s a totally different situation.
Hundreds of thousands of Chinese nationals have been naturalized. Also, tens of thousands of ethnic Chinese are Americans by virtue of birthright citizenship.
Yet, an overwhelming majority remain loyal to Red China. This includes a young lady I knew in grad school. She was one of the young protesters in Tianamen Square. Yet, now, a naturalized American, she supports China.
And graduate research in the sciences is not the only issue. They are also putting some very bright assets in top-tier business and law schools. Many go on to lobbying and consulting, eventually working their way up to corporate boards, law firm partnerships, even politics. But their first loyalty is to China.
When DJT was negotiating a new trade deal against China, many of the Chinese trade reps were American educated and knew our legal system as well as our own trade reps.
When China decided to retaliate against DJT’s trade sanctions, they cleverly placed tariffs on products from states whose GOP Congressional reps were facing close election challenges.
We are training our own adversary.
