Here in Indiana, the Amish crank out dogs like a factory and have fake front operations of “English” to do the marketing.
(Doesn’t everybody want to buy a nice dog from a “family” breeder?)
Unfortunately they do a lot of bad breeding and make a lot of defective dogs which wind up in breed rescue.
Here in Colorado, the majority of shelter dogs are rejects from other places, like pit bulls and barking dogs with bad attitudes.
We’ve tried to go to the shelter for a dog. We adopted once and had to return him. It was vicious. You also won’t find pure breeds like Basenjis and Golden Retrievers at a shelter. The pure breed rescues often are not a great source either.
We have adopted cats from the shelter. Both of ours that we now are great pets from the local shelter. Cats are definitely one animals where a shelter is a great source.
The Amish treat dogs worse than livestock and breed them recklessly. There are a lot of Amish dog breeders in the Lancaster area of PA.
