IMHO, Biden was one of the worst candidates in history. Trump should have won it running away with the largest landslide ever. But he didn't and a major reason was his own behavior - going crazy on twitter, denigrating others publicly, too much bragging and hubris, exaggeration and prevarication, etc. These attributes seem to thrill his "bots" but didn't set all that well with people who still value a modicum of civility and humility. Unnecessarily pissing off people and running roughshod over everything and everybody is generally not a winning strategy.
OFFS. Another one who is willing to give up on the best country in the history of the world because you’re crying over Twitter. Find your nads and get a effing life.
You have to remember he was fighting EVERYONE. From day one. The dems, GOP, 90% of the media, Hollywood, foreign leaders, even the FBI and CIA. He had to lash out. i do agree he could have derived benefit from a cohesive political team but hes not a politician
Biden didnt win this election but I always feared he’d have enough appeal to indy voters. And to put it plainly, Dementia Joe had a clear advantage over Hillary simply by being male.
I agree that Trump’s personality can be difficult to deal with. He’s a fighter, not a diplomat. In circumventing a hostile press, his tweets rub many people the wrong way. However, the actual policies he’s carried out don’t necessarily fit with his perceived personality. He enacted four peace treaties (Israel-Bahrain, Israel-United Arab Emirates, Israel-Sudan, Serbia-Kososvo), pulled a number of our troops out of Afghanistan, accomplished prison reform and signed a bill to restore funding for black colleges and universities. He stands up for freedom of religion - who would have thought that, given his previous billionaire celebrity life style? Does the press tout any of this?
There is some truth in that. Trump spent four years attacking absolutely anyone or anything that didn’t follow his script. That includes a vast amount of people working in government who aren’t decision makers and who have very strict rules and standards to follow... And who would be drummed out of of their professions if they acted the way Trump wants them to.
I spent years working in pharma research. The reason it takes years to get a drug licensed is because, before the unregulated snake oil and tragedies like Thalidomide compelled the industry to test, test, test. It is now too over regulated, a billion dollars can be spent developing a drug that ends up more expensive or less effective than another. Care home workers and ERs can’t be bothered with politics when they’re trying to find a treatment that works in a sudden pandemic situation when people are dropping like flies.
Trump was well within his rights to say COVID is overrated and probably released by China. He’s right to hate lockdowns too.
But he could’ve solved this by federally funding the research into COVID, and acknowledging that every other country in the free world was ready to pay trillions of dollars for a working vaccine... To any country that got there first.
Trump could easily have been a national hero over COVID by supporting R&D and marketing an American fix that eliminated any talk of lock down.
But not only did he oppose all that, he is now crowing about how a successful vaccine that was developed in Germany with ZERO input from his administration because he publicly refused to even write a small check wa his success... AND he argues the vaccine was delayed purely to spite him.
The UK has its own vaccine coming out shortly. Where is America’s?
Ask Trump. His unnecessary war on pharma over his fixation on who created COVID is the reason America will end up buying it from Britain, Germany OR even China.
You don’t have to be left wing to think Trump handled COVID in a way that belies his reputation as a great deal maker. Any half sane business brain would’ve seen a trillion dollar win on the table in March, Trump’s reaction was to call the opportunity FAKE NEWS.
