Walter E. Williams, a prominent conservative economist, author and political commentator who expressed profoundly skeptical views of government efforts to aid his fellow African-Americans and other minority groups, died on Tuesday on the campus of George Mason University in Virginia, where he had taught for 40 years. He was 84.
His daughter, Devon Williams, said he died suddenly in his car after he had finished teaching a class. She said he had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and hypertension.
As a public intellectual, Mr. Williams moved easily between the classroom and public forums that gave him wide reach. He wrote a syndicated column, lectured across the country and frequently appeared on the radio as a substitute host for the ardently conservative Rush Limbaugh.

Again?
************
Don’t know about again but there has been
a few threads declaring he be dead.
It’s the NY Times obituary, and the first I’ve seen that has included cause & circumstances of death, so I appreciate seeing it.
First I’ve heard of it. Long lived conservative.
Still
The NYT author is a retired business editor. Our fathers were best friends and classmates. Bob Hershey and I went to their same college, Gettysburg.
I lived in N. Philly not far from Walt Williams. I SALUTE. a fine man.
Larry
Paywall no thanks
At least the Democrats can’t claim it was from the Coven19 virus.
Walter Williams earned the doctorate (it was not merely honorary) and taught at universities and think tanks. Yet the NYT repeatedly calls him “Mr. Williams” in this obit instead of “Dr. Williams”, by which he would surely have been addressed at his workplace. And they want to sneer about racism?
I wonder if Dr. Jill Biden, an elementary schoolteacher, will routinely be called “Mrs. Biden” by the NYT?
See post 15 and let him know about it.
That’s Doctor Walter E. Williams to you NYT.
Editors are slavishly devoted to their style books, and the AP style book has decreed that Ph.D.s are never addressed as “Dr.” That title is assigned only to medical doctors.
Like Dr. Jill Biden, MD.
She id not an MD. She got her Doctorait in education.
