Edward Snowden asks Trump to pardon Wikileaks founder Julian Assange

NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden took to Twitter today to ask US President Donald Trump to pardon Wikileaks founder Julian Assange during his last days in office.

"Mr. President, if you grant only one act of clemency during your time in office, please: free Julian Assange. You alone can save his life," Snowden tweeted.

Assange, who has gained international fame for founding the WikiLeaks portal, is currently in custody in London, UK.

He was arrested in April 2019 for breaking pre-trial release conditions in a 2012 UK case.

At the time, Assange absconded and requested political asylum in the Ecuador embassy in London, where he lived until his arrest in 2019 when Ecuadorian officials withdrew the WikiLeaks founder's asylum status.

US authorities formally charged Assange for conspiring to leak US classified materials a month after his arrest. The indictment was updated a month later to include accusations that Assange tried to recruit famous hacker groups like Anonymous and LulzSec to carry out hacks on his behalf and steal sensitive files to publish on WikiLeaks.

If Assange worked for a newspaper—no matter what the size—there would be no question what he did was covered by the 1st amendment.

The law hasn’t caught up with technology. Websites ARE today’s free press. The fact that their contents aren’t printed on paper doesn’t make them any less an arm of the free press.

Charging Assange is no different than charging the NYT for printing the Pentagon Papers.

Assange should have never been charged to begin with.

I agree. Pardon both Snowden and Assange. Whatever "crimes" they committed, these so-called crimes positively pale in relation to the real crimes of Biden, the Democrat Party, and George Soros.

Even if Trump pardoned him, he would likely be grabbed by the British, Swedes or some other deep-state affiliate

It is hardly just the Clintons who don’t like Assange.

The hidden hands behind the real power levers of the world cannot let Assange reveal the truth behind the supposed DNC “hack.”

So he’ll never be free and alive.

‘Arkancide’ strikes deep. Into US political life it did creep. It starts when you get too close to the brutes. Then, if you go out at night for a drink, a G-man walks up behind you and shoots...

My apologies to Buffalo Springfield.

Snowden was working for the CIA. Quite the cesspool of corruption before Trump took office. Seems like it was a battle for supremacy. Corruption portion of CIA intentionally exposing Corrupt portion of NSA to get NSA disbanded.

Having him advocate for Assange is suspicious. It reminds me of some KKK leader (I forget his name) who endorses whatever presidential candidate the left wants to lose the election.
