Convinced that President Donald Trump lost his bid for reelection, the media suddenly became less hysterical. Just like that, the media, at least to some degree, rediscovered concepts such as fairness and perspective, AWOL the last four years.
Two weeks after the election, New York Times Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Nicholas Kristof haltingly, grudgingly and reluctantly, admitted that yes, Trump was right. Banning in-person school education to fight COVID-19 was and is bad policy. Kristof wrote: "Some things are true even though President Trump says them. Trump has been demanding for months that schools reopen, and on that he seems to have been largely right. Schools, especially elementary schools, do not appear to have been major sources of coronavirus transmission, and remote learning is proving to be a catastrophe for many low-income children." Kristof, of course, could not acknowledge Trump's correct judgement without the "somethings are true even though Trump says them" snark. But remember, this is The New York Times, a paper that has not endorsed a Republican for president since 1956. Little steps.
Kristof even took a Trump-like swipe at Democratic-run cities. And, whether inadvertently or not, he made the case for K-12 vouchers for inner city kids: "So Democrats helped preside over school closures that have devastated millions of families and damaged children's futures. Cities such as Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., have closed schools while allowing restaurants to operate. ... School closures magnify these inequities, as many private schools remain open and affluent parents are better able to help kids adjust to remote learning. At the same time, low-income children fall even further behind."
The New York Times again, after the media awarded the election to former Vice President Joe Biden, even questioned the science behind a ban on outdoor dining, like most counties in California recently enacted. In "Small Gatherings Spread the Virus, but Are They Causing the Surge?" the Times wrote:
"But are dinners and backyard barbecues really the engine driving the current surge of infections? The available data do not support that contention, scientists say. Still, the idea has been repeated so often it has become conventional wisdom, leading to significant restrictions in many states. ...
"But many epidemiologists are far less certain, saying there is little evidence to suggest that household gatherings were the source of the majority of infections since the summer. Indeed, it has become much harder to pinpoint any source of any outbreak, now that the virus is so widespread and Americans may be exposed in so many ways. ...
"A constant drumbeat about the dangers of social gatherings may help to convey the seriousness of the current surge, (Harvard University infectious disease epidemiologist Julia Marcus) said. On the other hand, in some states the misperception has led to draconian policies that don't square with science."
Goodness! If Pulitzer gave a prize for "Fair and Balanced Coronavirus Stories in the Post-Trump Era," The New York Times might actually deserve this one.
Former Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein shared the mood of much of the Trump-hating left when he accused Trump of "homicidal negligence" in his handling of the coronavirus. But Dr. Anthony Fauci, post-election, also sounds Trumpian. On the possibility of further lockdowns, Fauci recently said: "There is no appetite for locking down in the American public, but I believe that we can do it without a lockdown. I really do. ... You could still get businesses going. You could still have economic forward thinking while you're doing that. You don't necessarily have to shut everything down. Hopefully we won't have to do that."
to anyone paying attention, the ‘media’ lost credibility 30 years ago at least.
Something that those of us thinking Americans already knew. I have known it for 30 years.
This time they went to the extreme. The media sold their souls to the devil to win and there is no turning back for them.
The Media hasn’t had any credibility in over 30 years, and the Corona Virus is being TRANSMITTED THRU YOUR TELEVISION, TURN IT OFF and Stay SAFE!!
When Trump secures victory.... THEN their credibility is destroyed.
However, they don’t care.
Credibility is NOT a required asset of the CCP media.
I would guess that over half the sheep still watch ABCCBSNBCCNN for their “news”.
I first noticed leftist media bias back during the Reagan and post Reagan era when the media harped on the homeless being the fault of heartless Republicans, but then the issue totally disappeared from media radar whenever a Dem won the presidency.
There is a chapter in Bernard Goldberg’s book Bias called “How Bill Clinton Cured Homelessness”.
There wasn't 'massive fraud', but lots of cheating, lots of dead voters, many coincidences of human error ONLY favoring Biden, many math errors ONLY favoring Biden, many computer errors and glitches ONLY favoring Biden, many helpful voting machine vendors "updating" data during and after the polls and helping one candidate and hurting another candidate.....and we are supposed to be compliant little sheep and accept the contrived outcome. Massive fraud didn't happen.....but did it.....?
It all depends on what you describe as "paying attention".
The revolution against the Mediacracy may have suffered a setback, but it continues.
This has been an information war, at its heart.
Discrediting the old Media is a huge victory.
NJ newspaper websites are begging for subscribers; they are a relic from the age Obama publicly pined for (when Americans received all of their news from a couple of places all reporting the same stories).
When every cellphone could record events, and the footage could be posted online, the “old media” was doomed; the truth couldn’t be concealed/manipulated so easily.
No no no
Nope
He is not a destroyer. That’s propaganda.
Trump allowed them to destroy themselves. Most people give in to pressure to enable people in their self destructive behavior
Trump is not a wobbly enabler. Fox hoped he would fight back but he truly does not care if this multi billion business and all the people it employs self destructs on their path to global elitism
People propagandize him into a meanie. But he doesn’t let that change his way of calling them out for being liars.
That’s probably about when it started for me. Their credibiliy was totally destroyed for me in the Spring of 2000 when the Cincinnati riots were well covered here on FR, but were largely ignored by the national media. The extent of how badly we were being lied to by omission became clear to me at that point.
Interestingly, I had lunch with a new acquaintance yesterday, and this subject came up. He happened to have lived in Cincy for a while, moving there shortly after the riots. He didn’t realize that most of the country didn’t know about them, as they were well known locally. He already lent no credibility to the media, this just further cemented it.
“Technology” didn’t exist when I first noticed the disparity in the truth. Probably about the time that Rush started broadcasting on AM radio or a few short years after. I do believe that it was something that was said in the local newspaper that shocked me and made me search for alternative sources of news and that is how I found Rush and Newt. I believe that Newt had a show.
I was a dedicated Democrat because of the promises. I was an idealistic kid, too. I began to realize that the promises were all lies and that Democrats were terrible hypocrites. When I had the epiphany, I thought people must be fools to believe in the Democrat party. It still shocks me that people believe in the Democrat party.
Unfortunately, many people are still stuck in the “cold frozen ice.” Maybe because they intentionally ignore the continual lies and deception or maybe they believe in the ideals and promises that the Democrat party once was or should be.
The latest example are the riots last summer. I honestly believe it was all a show; a way to keep the African American people on the plantation. The Democrat party were losing African Americans to Donald Trump and so the only way for the party to keep African Americans on their side was to fabricate lies about racism, white privilege, the police, etc. It was a game that the Democrat party created and we were all played for fools.
Then, Democrat party abandoned their Christian beliefs.
Bottom line: the Democrat party will do anything and hurt anyone to win. It is win at all costs.
I don’t think anyone “believes” in the Democratic Party now; they are openly paid with other peoples’ money to vote for them (either welfare/the dole or workfare/gubmint jobs).
It is so ridiculous that Big Media is so openly in bed with the Deep State that news stories alone are expected to serve as official business - for example, shutting businesses and travel. A couple of small business owners I know have received no official notice of COVID restrictions; they should close because “TV said so”...
what opened my eyes was the overnight transition from the feeding frenzy attack journalism with Bush Sr. (which pales in comparison to the way Bush Jr was treated, and exponentially more so with DJT)...to the slobbering Bill Clinton worship
Agreed. This will be the downfall of our country. No integrity, no sense of right and wrong just gimme, gimme, gimme.
As far as the media is concerned, they have burned bridges and, at this point, are no better than tabloid news — the newspapers about the “chicken boy” that your grandma bought. Salacious and exciting from a morbid point of view but with absolutely no value.
The MSM are purveyors and promoters of porn. Nothing more.
I got started with Rush in that time frame. The events I described were when it went total loss for me.
Even weather forecasts are BS now - completely inaccurate, but if something causes any damage it is “global warming”...
CDC destroyed their own credibility. There is no possible way a vaccine of any sort is getting near me again until that place has had a complete and thorough plasma sanitization from top to bottom.
