Microsoft files patent to record and score meetings on body language

Technology giant Microsoft has filed a patent for a system to monitor employees' body language and facial expressions during work meetings and give the events a "quality score".

A filing suggests it could be deployed in real-world meetings or online virtual get-togethers.

It envisions rooms being packed with sensors to monitor the participants, which could raise privacy concerns.

Microsoft is already under fire over a separate "productivity-score" tool. 'Employee-surveillance tool'

That feature was introduced last year but came to prominence only after a public demo at a corporate event.

It allows managers to keep track of individual workers' use of Microsoft's Office 365 software - including Outlook email and the Teams meeting and Excel spreadsheet apps.

Microsoft points out the facility is not enabled by default and suggests its primary goal is to identify IT shortcomings.

But critics say it is effectively an employee-surveillance tool.

Be sure to smile and laugh at the bosses' jokes.

And remember, don't be the first one to stop clapping.

Bill Gates is a repulsive human being, a complete, totalitarian fascist. He’s one of my older sister’s heroes.

'Employee-surveillance tool'

What about an employER-surveillance tool so the Tara Reid's of this world can get some justice?

It used to be easy to pick out the back stabbing jerks. Now they will all maintain the same expressions. Eye rolling costs ten points at raise time.

Glad I’m retired, still using MS Office 2007 on industrial-grade Win-7 Pro x64, with Norton 360 Premium, MalwareBytes Premium and CCleaner Premium, all with NO cameras. Eff MS.

If your facial expressions and body language does not display the approved mood patterns the state will censor you.

Wow!! And their employees are supposed to trust this? This is the same company that has to continually put out patches in updates for their software due to security risks.

A co-worker of mine became a supervisor and right away wanted to fire people. He gives the job reviews and will ding you for anything. He would love this surveillance tool.

He may regret as he literally spends hours complaining about his co-workers from higher ups to people in other places in our building. We have had several people leave.

Things like this make me very happy that I am only a few years from retirement (at most)

Eventually this kind of software will incorporate AI software that will be able to monitor facial expressions to judge the truthfulness of those speaking. Or if those listening believe the speaker.
