I spent a few seconds in confused thought about why an aircraft carrier would be delivering supplies to Antarctica.

I thought the same thing. But since it appears the ship was to deliver an entire research station that would take a while to assemble delivering it late scrubs the mission for this season?

Must have been built with improperly cured Chinese steel. BO was having a problem with parts falling off of their oil tankers in the Gulf of Alaska after building new tankers with parts made in China.

Anybody else notice the “carrier” turned out to be a Cargo ship ? I guess I should have noticed the lowercase “c” denoting that it wasn’t an Aircraft Carrier.
That was the first thing I noticed, cause I'm pretty sure Russka has no nuclear aircraft carriers. Their only one, ADM Kusnetsov(?), is steam turbines that run on mazut, which is crappy, low-grade oil fuel.
5,000 lbs of cargo ? Why send a ship when it could have gone via plane ?
Because it's 5,000 tons, not pounds. So that's 200+ flights if you have a C-130. Which Russia doesn't, and I don't think they really operate flights to Antarctica as is.
