My husband took me many years ago to see movie To Kill A Mocking Bird. I did not care for it.

I’m not so sure it is so totally the parents’ fault. We steal children’s young years from them by forcing them to sit in school 30 hours a week (usually 35-40 hours if you just count the commuting time back and forth).

And 30 hours a week, 10 months out of the year, for 12-13 years, is more than enough time to sit their butts down and have them lead loads of good books.

But that is not done. Instead profoundly disinterested and ill-educated but massively propagandized blobs are plopped out at the end of the assembly line—with colleges expected to accept, pass and graduate them for whatever they do or do not know or produce.

The nuns in parochial schools of yesteryear would have molded fine young citizens and adults from that raw material and time, regardless of the family situations behind the children.
