That different behavior and stress in the population this year MUST be considered as much as the virus itself in discussing 300,000 more deaths than usual.

I agree with you 100%. Once again I will use my parents as an example. My mom took a fall... she was in a lot of pain for months but she refused to go in to get it checked out. My dad had two teeth that were rotting away in his mouth after he had caps fall off. His breath was just awful. When we finally got him in to the dentist, he was told that the teeth could have been saved if he had gotten in a few months earlier. My parents normally see a doctor or other health care professional whenever they are having any difficulties.

The other problem is that they are typically extremely sociable and their church was closed down for months and even when it reopened for a limited amount of attendance it was a shell of what it was.

All of these factors have a much greater impact than this virus which with the current infection rate vs the death rate proves is less deadly than many strains of the flu. Last Spring when tests were not widely available there were studies relying on tests for antibodies which demonstrated that the actual infection rate had probably been ten times what the “case” numbers had indicated. The current uptick is from increased testing.

Yes.

But, many only know/believe what they can see, and not what common sense and critical thinking could tell them. As with this consideration — there are no numbers for those like your parents, with failing health directly caused by Covid fear-mongering.

And, we now know many that have Covid are asymptomatic. And so, their hospital test will put them in the Covid columns, though Covid did not take them down.

(You and I get raked over coals for talking like this, at FR of all places.)
