Jokes aside; I totally agree with GreyFriar - war is always a combination of factors and no super-weapon has been shown to be supreme yet.

I was just reading about the Norman Invasion of England and in it there was a discussion about whether or not William of Normandy had crossbowmen among his archers. That was followed by a note that, a few years after 1066, the Pope outlawed the use of the crossbow because it was “too deadly” of a weapon.
