How much black you gotta be? According to Ancestry.com I have me 2%. That ought to bring me at least 2 acres.

What is the legal definition of a “black farmer?”

"At their peak, in 1920, there were 925,708 Black farmers, accounting for 17%, or about one-sixth, of U.S. farmers. A century later, according to the 2017 Census of Agriculture, there were 35,470 farms with Black producers — just 1.7% of the U.S. total. "

Another example of fake statistics. The 1920 USDA census actually says "...949,889, or 14.7 per cent, by colored farmers, including 925,708 Negroes, 16,680 Indians, 6,892 Japanese, and 609 Chinese." You can read the original document here, see page 3.

So the 17% number is wrong. In order to make an accurate comparison the 2017 group should be the same as the 1920 group. Table 52 of the 2017 USDA census shows that of the 2,740,453 principal producers, 46,210 are American Indian or Alaska Native, 16,978 are Asian, 38,447 are Black or African American, 2,306 are Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, and 21,986 reported more than one race. The total is 125,927 using the same grouping as the 1920 census. Percentage wise the group is 4.6% of all farmers.

The data seems to indicate that Black farmers migrated off of their farms at a higher rate than other farmers. That isn't a surprise to anyone who has studied American history since the opportunities provided by factories in cities in the Midwest and elsewhere were better than the opportunities available to farmers in the south.

It is too bad that many jobs available to Blacks in American cities were moved to other states and countries by liberal elites. Now their solution is to offer farmland to people who lack the capital, and in many cases the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a complex and difficult business.

The Democrats keep inventing ways to damage Black Americans.

This came to mind as it was in the news a long time ago - there was a lot of scandal about Vilsack and Sherrod regarding blacks getting preferential treatment - not covered in Wikipedia but it was pretty well covered online and in the news. Who did and who did not qualify for loans (I believe) from the government. People who were growing gardens qualified..people who had potted plants on their stoops qualified.. It never ends, does it? Any surprise to see who thought up this mess?

“”Vilsack appointed Shirley Sherrod as the Georgia Director of Rural Development, saying that she would be an “important advocate on behalf of rural communities.”[31] Months after the appointment, Vilsack forced her to resign based on accusations of considering race in the handling of her job responsibilities at a private advocacy firm in 1986.[32] Subsequent reports claim that he overreacted to a video segment taken out of context, and the secretary expressed his “deep regret” to Sherrod in acting hastily.[33]””

Up to 20,000 grants of 160 acres would be made annually through 2030

160 acres in today's farming world is just enough to get you in debt really quick.

Old joke; How do you make a million dollars farming? Start with a tem million dollars!

I foresee any black 'farmer' who thinks they will be farming ten years later is a fool. Equipment alone will be expensive. But the next farm bill will include aid in buying future black 'farmers' their bailout.

In the desert? What percentage of blacks would farm? Farming is backbreaking work (I picked tobacco when I was 11 12 and 13, my friend's dad had a little tobacco farm). Connecticut Valley Shade Grown is great, but you'll sweat your ass off under the c

That said if they want to farm, great for them.

As a pilot flying over beautiful Zimbabwe for over 20 years, I personally watched the irrigated postage stamp field patterns and Circle Sprinkler Fields change before my eyes. The irrigated fields that stretched for miles that were green and lush turn into fields of weeds and now huge trees growing in the fields that are now waste lands. Zimbabwe grew so much food that they exported tons of food and had a substantial surplus. The White Farmers were killed or run off their land and it was taken over by Black Farmers with the blessings of President Robert Mugabe. Now, Zim must import food and have a tremendous deficit.

Guess they “forgot” about the $50K checks that went out to pretty much every “black farmer” a couple of decades ago... It too was about supposed discrimination by the same governmental entity...

Total bullshit. If this is allowed, I want to apply for a “Dutch Farmer” land give away. My original colonial ancestor was a farmer in Brooklyn and was, obviously, screwed out of his land by taxes and the English takeover to rename the city and misappropriate lands held by earnest, hard working farmers. 371 years, times, $100,000, (a bargain)
would give my family $37,100,000, about the price of what the land in Brooklyn is worth.

PAY UP now, before any other late claimers are satisfied.
