NEWSSource: BCA selects Katie Britt as new president, CEO

After interviewing top-tier candidates to fill the role of leading the Business Council of Alabama into the future, the executive committee on Tuesday selected Katie Britt to serve as the organization’s new president.
“After interviewing three candidates today, the executive committee unanimously voted to offer the position of president of the Business Council of Alabama to Katie Britt,” a source not authorized to speak on the record confirmed to APR.
An Enterprise native, Britt is the current chief of staff for U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby. Britt is the first female chief of staff for an Alabama senator.
“Katie has shown once again that she can shatter the glass ceiling and stand on it with grace and determination,” the source said.
The executive committee’s recommendations will go before the entire BCA board for final approval but few believe that Britt will not be welcomed, according to several individual members who spoke with APR.
Finalists for the position were Gov. Kay Ivey’s chief of staff Steve Pelham, who withdrew his name before final consideration. Former U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner was in contention but also took himself out of the running before the committee met for final deliberation. Also on the shortlist were former Speaker of the House Seth Hammett and State Rep. Danny Garrett.
Britt is a graduate of the University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a doctorate of law. Britt has been a rising star in state politics since her days as an undergrad.
Britt formerly served as Shelby’s press secretary, deputy campaign manager and spokeswoman for Shelby during his Senate campaign in 2016.
She is married to Wesley Britt, a former offensive lineman for the Crimson Tide and the New England Patriots. The two have proven to be a powerhouse couple in Alabama and D.C.
The couple has two school-age children.
