Like millions of Americans, I have in recent days grown sick of Facebook. Like hundreds of thousands, I've abandoned it for Parler.
When I said goodbye to my friends on Facebook, they were all kind. Many said they'd miss me, and others offered advice. One told me she had glanced into Parler and had found it horrifying. But, she said, she was sure I had done my due diligence before signing on.
Indeed I had. Parler allows you to choose whose words you read and whose memes you chuckle at. I'm not a fan of outlandish conspiracy theories so I don't keep up with the Joneses -- Alex or Mother. I enjoy reading intelligent articles from all sides, so I follow the American Thinker and National Review on Parler. I'm a libertarian, so on Parler I also follow Reason and the Cato Institute. Because they haven’t yet signed on to Parler, I subscribed to the New Republic and Harpers. I don’t want to be trapped in a bubble of anyone’s making.
Problem solved.
Another pointed out that according to Wikipedia, “Parler has a significant user base of Trump supporters, conservatives, and Saudi nationalists, and posts often contain far-right content, antisemitism, and conspiracy theories.”

I have never ever posted on Facebook. Never will.
I pretty much regard a Facebook dweller as not too sharp. Some of my siblings use it for family contacts, but sorry, using Facebook denotes a weak mind.
Deleted my account. It expires 12/8/2020. Fuck Zuck
I prefer MeWe. More Facebook like. With Parler I see mostly to big names posting and not much from friends.
Someone pointed out that it is a good source of intelligence on what the enemy are doing and up to.
Don’t comment. Just observe and note.
Me? I have an account but don’t have the time. Too busy with other things.
I don’t like Paler I deleted my account. It’s not user friendly. I use Facebook it’s fun when family and friends are communicating.
I use it mainly for interests like travel, local history, NHL and MLB and Hollywood nostalgia, being connected with former high school classmates, and showcasing items (magazines, pictures, newspapers) recovered from the old family homestead. Therefore, people whose “read at your own discretion” posts that are DU material are simply ignored on my part.
Cannot quit what was never started.
Agreed. You have to be a little narcissistic too.
No one cares about what you ate for dinner last night.
I need such a system, not. I email and text those I need to keep in touch with.
Several years ago I joined for a few weeks and discovered they had access to my Hotmail address book, which was something I denied them access too. I considered this to be very intrusive and quit the account. I do not miss it.
It is such a great way to gather information on the citizenry. The short time I was a member, I went to the pages of some I knew, and a few gave their entire day’s activities. Some forecast their travels so a thief would know when no one was home. Just plain stupid.
Been there done that. It’s easy to do. Found myself sitting there for an hour scrollong through the nonsense one day and just cut it cold. Never ever looked back.
I never even looked at it no less used Fakebook.
How do you delete your account?
Have to agree that Parler needs to work on its interface.
I was on for a year or 2. I quit over 5 years ago. Just Linkedin now.
I still have Facebook. Mostly to keep in touch with friends and family who live far away, look at cute animal pictures, and post dank memes....
I quit in 2015 and didn’t look back. It’s very seductive as it provides an easy way to stay in touch with family and friends, but people are unwittingly exposing their lives to criminals, the government and predatory advertisers. And now there is censorship. It’s not worth the risks.
