A major Danish study has found face masks give no clear protection from Covid-19 infection to the wearer, but did not examine whether the wearer protects others by using the item.
The study compared how well protected one group of people who used masks were compared with a second group who did not use them. The results of the study were announced in a statement released by In the non-face mask group, 2.1 percent of participants were infected with new coronavirus, while 1.8 percent of participants in the face mask-wearing group were infected.
That difference is not big enough to conclude with certainty a benefit of using face masks with regard to protecting oneself from infection.
The researchers stressed that there are limits to the conclusions that can be drawn from the results.
“The study thereby fails to confirm the expected halving of risk of infection for the wearer of the face mask, but the results could suggest a moderate level of protection of 15-20 percent,” the Danish-language press statement notes.
“According to the study authors, their findings offer evidence about the degree of protection mask wearers can anticipate in a setting where others are not wearing masks and where other public health measures, including social distancing, are in effect,” reads the English-language counterpart.
It is important to note that the study looked exclusively at the protective effects of masks for the wearer, and not at the wearer’s ability to protect others.
As such, the study cannot be used to draw conclusions on the general merits of using face masks as an effective preventative measure against Covid-19 infection, the researchers behind the study
The research project involved two groups totalling 6,000 people, and was conducted in April and May this year, when face mask use was not widespread in Denmark.

Isn’t the question whether the help prevent the wearer from passing the virus to others? That’s been the whole point of the masks throughout the year.
on the news last night there was a short blurb about a woman who had covid, got on an elevator, and 18 people who rode it afterwards ‘got covid’
Not sure how they determined the woman ws to blame, and let’s not forget, the majority of tests are false positives- so who knows if they actually did or not
Also not mentioned was how many of the so called infected had masks on inside the elevator- probably all of them- so if they did actually get covid, and did actully get it from the elevator, after she rode on it- then yeah- that kinda shows that masks don’t protect individuals
but of course their side will argue ‘other people rode the elevator too and didn’t get sick’ or ‘well those folks didn’t wear them properly’ blah blah blah
They seem to have a ready answer for anything in their effort to keep low info folks locked down in fear- over a virus where 98+% survive

Results? No significant difference at preventing wearers from becoming infected with the virus!!!

This is the first and only RCT we have on mask effectiveness against COVID-19 in community settings, but its findings of ineffectiveness are fully expected in light of all the other RCTs we have on other respiratory viruses.
No matter what this or any study concludes, it will mean nothing to the mask cultists who are in a full-blown, hair-on-fire, dig my beliefs frenzy. Likley explained by the “Sunk cost fallacy”. They are possessed religious fanatics and nothing will shake them from their desperation to control something about this virus. If these are the findings from a covering such as a surgical mask, imagine how inept cotton masks are.
Nothing short of a hazmat suit or N95 will protect them from their greatest fear....getting a virus that has a 99.7% survival rate.
Please answer this question: how do masks reduce transmission one way, but not the other? Is there a one-way valve stitched into the fabric?
We cannot do a study showing that masks protect others as it would be unethical to send infected individuals out into the community. This study is the best we got or likely will ever get. Surgical masks do not stop this virus. Do you really thing cloths mask do?
Masks DON’T work in hospitals, unless they are fitted masks with gloves and other protective gear. And you need to change your gloves and masks regularly.
They are worn to prevent blood getting in the wearer’s mouth, or to prevent snot or mucous from dripping on the patient. If there is a significant risk, then strict procedures are in place along with fitted masks and otehr protective gear.
Lots of studies were done before the Chinavirus and before masks became a political magic talisman. None showed surgical masks prevented viral infections in EITHER direction.
Nurses entering a room with a flu patient don’t put on a surgical mask to do so.
No folks are more brainwashed and fearful than the health care industry folks. They have been subject to mind control for many years, by their medical industry overlords. They are putty in their hands.
And surgery is an altogether different kind of beast. People’s innards, which aren’t normally meant to be exposed, are opened up. Of course you wouldn’t want germs of all sorts in innards, not designed to handle them.
