My brother, an IT consultant for many years, runs a web host on a computer in his home. It’s for his business but he’d do one for me if I wanted.
I don’t see the big deal about a web hoster. The former Conservative Treehouse hoster, WordPress is a place that makes it easy for simple people to created pretty websites.
Prettiness is not important in news communication. Needed are only text and imbedded pictures and videos. Freerepublic is a perfect example.
Does the site need the ability to post comments like Freerepublic has? It’s nice but getting out the truth is most important.
I’m wondering if FreeRepublic depends on machinery found in only the hosters that are inclined to pull the plug if they disagree with the content.
Maybe not, but sites like FreeRepublic should require only the simplest of hoster. Why can’t FreeRepublic be its own hoster? Then it could host other sites and, ha ha, kick out ones that it didn’t like.
The greatest fear is that big, big, big brother, the internet overseers, wouldn’t even let you have a fixed IP address which is required to have a server. Or they could refuse to give your host a name and users would have to know the IP address to use it (that’s the Dark Web).
Someone correct me if there are inaccuracies above.
Freerepublic is a perfect example.
Drudge was a better example, just present headlines as links. Of course they lost their mind then along came thelibertydaily.com which is an absolute copy of Drudge format as is protrumpnews.com.
None of those even come close to the format of FreeRepublic.com.
Some use discus or other methods of monitoring and commenting but nothing even come close to Jim's creation. Wish he would market it, maybe to Trump or some other friendly billionaire. Jim is old like me and Rush is in bad shape someone has to take the mantle or they will all die with us.
Thanks Jim for my daily sanity boost. I have never missed a day here except when you were down, since long before I signed in to comment.
