Susan Collins rips Schumer, eyes new Senate clout with chamber narrowly split

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, could be among the most influential lawmakers when the next Congress convenes in January -- with Senate Republicans holding a 52-48 majority at best.

Collins’ position of prominence wasn’t certain. Polling before the election showed Democrats with a good chance of taking control of the Senate and polls showed her campaigning from behind against her Democratic opponent, Sara Gideon, Maine’s House speaker, who outspent her.

But Democrats’ hopes for a blue wave crashed and Collins handily won her race by 9 points, a larger win than even she expected.

“I was very gratified that the margin was so big -- that people were able to look at the individual,” she told Politico. “They were smart enough to reject the outright lies that Chuck Schumer and his PAC have hoisted.”

Guess not based on any facts (my usual way):
S. Collins: “My brother— they called the smart one. My sister— they called the pretty one. Now I am the powerful one who can bring hundreds of reporters to hang on my decisions and whims.”

Right...that was a surprise from Ms. “Bipartisan” to say that about the Dem leader.

That was for the Florida State Senate, not the US Senate.

It is currently 50-48 with 2 races undecided...we need to win at least 1 out of the 2...preferably both, of course.

And the very same GOP candidate failed to hold both of them.

It may have made sense to appoint McSally as the Senator to serve until the next election, but not for her to be the candidate again.

Schumer hasn’t failed yet - both Senate seats are up in Georgia to decide the majority.

“ and didn’t appreciate her “no” vote on ACB”

McConnell let her vote “no” and that vote kept the seat.

I understand that...that story was from a news source local to that area and was written for a local audience.

She’s a RINO, but that’s as good as you’ll get in Maine. Romney bothers me a lot more. No reason Utah should be electing a Republican like that.

I’ve said this before...but I do respect the fact she doesn’t lie about her true philosophy. She has never claimed to be a conservative and has always been very up front about it. She doesn’t falsely claim to be a “severe conservative” and then backstab later. You know she’s probably not going to be there on hot button issues most of the time.

I don’t like it that she’s not a conservative, but I appreciate her not lying about it.
