The Democrats aren’t anybody’s tools. They are tools in their own right. Their operating theory is that the US is the focus of evil in the modern world. They’ll work with Russia or anyone else to bring the US to heel. That includes cutting defense at every opportunity, and using global forums to diminish American power. They don’t really care how the US is weakened, as long as this is accomplished.

I’ve seen some speculation that the neocons want a war (even trying to push Trump into it) to destabilize/rally the western economy - I think the real reason is that Putin double crossed Obama, Hillary and Biden in the Ukraine in some way and it’s all personal to them.
