I was born and raised in England. Guy Fawkes was, of course, the VILLAIN! Celebrate his death! He tried to blow up Parliament!
...fireworks! bonfires! Throw and effigy of Guy onto the fire!! YAY!! BURN!!
Not once did anyone I know question the details of the story. It was certainly supported by the State however. I’m not saying Guy didn’t get what he deserved but after living in the USA for 30+ years, as a Constitutional loving citizen, very much distrustful of government, I’m far more cautious about believing ANYTHING that the State celebrates like this.
It certainly feels like there could be more to it and was used as propaganda to advance the interests of those in power - still hundreds of years on, it reinforces the belief that we should LOVE our government. It’s one thing to be a patriot but I’m of the belief that government should be as small as possible and is nothing more than a necessary evil. Washington D.C. is all the evidence I need.
We lived outside of London ‘61-’63(I was 13-15) and we got some awesome fireworks to pop for Guy Fawkes day.
I am on FaceBook and have many of my husbands relatives as friends. I have NEVER commented on British politics on my page. My in-law relatives are unhinged with hatred for Trump with really nasty comments toward me. I did point out that they only know what they have been told by our Leftist Media. A real deluge of nastiness ensued after my comment.
They dont understands the freedoms we have in this country. And that the Media does not declare who is President. I just want a CLEAND AND FAIR election. They have destroyed me with their nasty comments, but I am sure I will survive ; )
