Conservatives love freedom and cherish their personal liberties - so much so that it is hard for them to find leadership unless they are under threat.
The crazies seeking power and control are, therefore, driven to the other party. They do this by claiming the mantle of Liberalism, to be in opposition to Conservatives.

Such leadership will only come from outside the GOP IMHO. The GOP is bereft of leadership (aside from Trump who I really don’t consider as a Republican). Time for a new party has come.
