If it is done by a machine, the machine can be altered. Machines do what they are told to do, so if someone is astute enough to understand what makes the machine run, then that person can change algorithms and parameters to make the machine do whatever that person desires.
Ergo, the photo dates can be changed as well as the time stamps.

True, but that takes a bit more skill than simply changing the stamp. And, is something the fraudsters possibly didn't even think of. It would be an easy thing to check, and at least see if the total numbers line up!
