I believe that their strategy all along was to sew so much chaos that they would force it to SCOTUS. Then Ginsburg assumed room temperature and ruined everything. But, the train was way too far down the track to turn around.

Indeed, this might be the motivation for Ginsberg to hold on as long as she did (that is, holding on all of the way until her passing on) instead of resigning the court before she passed away.
