As the Virus Rages, Some Are Convinced It's Too Late to Stop It

COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho — The congregation of Candlelight Christian Fellowship gathered around tables sipping coffee and grapple with theological questions.

With a potluck dinner, no masks and plenty of shared hugs, the night felt like a throwback to the pre-pandemic era except for a noticeable exception on the stage: The lead pastor, Paul Van Noy, was addressing the congregation with the aid of supplemental oxygen, piped into his nostrils from a small tank.

About a month ago, Van Noy, 60, was discharged from a hospital in a wheelchair after a COVID-19 infection brought him to the brink of death. But while that scare ravaged his lungs and rattled the church, it has done little to alter the growing sentiment among many people in northern Idaho that the coronavirus cannot be stopped and efforts to contain it are doing more harm than good.

“I think we just open up and we just let it take its course,” said Nancy Hillberg, 68, as church members mingled after the service. “Just let it be done.”

Amid a record spike of coronavirus cases and the final days of the presidential election, President Donald Trump and his administration have expressed increasing helplessness at containing the virus, focusing instead on improvements in survivability and trying to hold the economy together. While it is a theme welcomed by many of the president’s supporters, it has proved alarming to health officials who are encountering rising resistance to their calls for unity in combating a pandemic that has already claimed nearly 230,000 Americans and threatens to take many more.

Governors around the country, particularly Republican ones, are following the president’s lead in resisting new restrictions against a virus that has powerfully persisted despite lockdowns in some areas over the spring and summer.

I feel that this is so contagious that containment is impossible. Work the therapy drugs so I can recover at home and not a hospital. tough cases head to hospital. Get the vaccine out asap and give it to old folks in nursing homes and those w/ health issues and first responders, then head to main stream population

Wearing a mask when ever I am out totally takes all the fun out of everything and not all masks are the same so no one can convince me they actually work.

The only way to stop the virus is for the species to deal with it, either by developing a degree of community (aka herd) immunity to mute the worst symptoms/outcomes, or finding an effective vaccine and/or treatment. That is exactly to path we have been following. Doubling the testing will double the cases, as long as they keep up the 40 cycle RT-PCR test.

Yeah the death rates for under 50 years old is incredibly small. like 0.002% similar to flu.

Over 50’s and especially over 70’s should take it more seriously.

People should just take into account the risk, no different than driving a motorcycle or other activities with slightly higher risk of fatality like mountain climbing or sky diving.

If you are old or have a chronic condition, mask up and social distance/isolate. If you are young and health, live your life.

If you feel uncomfortable

And they are adding test sites as though they need them. Local CVS now a custerbang to pick up prescriptions since they’ve become a drive through test site.

I have been saying this for months now. It is a virus, you cannot stop a microscopic living organism from spreading no matter what you do. Viruses by their very nature will spread, that is what they do, that’s what they will always do for the rest of eternity.

We see states with Democratic governors, and even parts of Europe that has strict lock down early on wanting to go back to the strict lockdown’s. The first time they said it would stop the spread of the virus, if we all just wore masks it’ll prevent the virus from spreading, etc. The states have been doing that since April or May and continues to spread in cases continue to increase despite all these precautions. Every single thing they tried failed, and yet they intend to go back to doing the thing that failed again thinking it might work this time. The only reason they are doing that is to placate the terrified Karen’s who sings they are going to die if they get the mail and their neighbor walks by with their dog not wearing a mask.

I am convinced the Rats seeded it again. Bunch of folks have gotten it in my locale, including me and my wife. Won’t be long and it should burn itself out around here. That should have been done long ago

Agree 100%. Resurged here in Central Texas a month or so ago. It ran through our household of five. Felt crummy for 5 days - one day felt like garbage - but pretty much a ho-hum event. Harsh reality: it’s fatal to those who are closer to death anyway than the average person. And they’ll be susceptible to it (and dozens of other things) unless they get otherwise healthy. This has been a politicized, well strategized, intentionally designed and released weapon.

I agree with everything that has been said on this thread, but there’s one additional action needed: Do whatever is necessary to make sure that the Chicom government can’t do this again. I favor covert action to undermine and bring down that wretched government. They’re certainly not shy about trying to undermine our government, so the gloves should come off.

Let's face it, the virus is "in the wild" now. It has a low fatality rate, either because it has always been that way or is attenuating.

Having good therapeutics and potential vaccines is great, and the progress developing them is amazing.
What this means is that we can't be in perpetual lockdowns, and the "cult of the face mask" can stuff it. Vigilance is key-proper hygiene, use your head, and live life.

That’s what I think. They seeded it in the subject in June and they seeded it in the Midwest just before the election.

It does seem to be unstoppable. It is ravaging the North East despite the measures the RAT politicians put in place. And what’s up with the Netherlands? They’re really spiking.

And Slow Joe’s “plan” to “control the virus” smacks of Ozymandiaus.

”Harsh reality: it’s fatal to those who are closer to death anyway than the average person.”

Yep. We need to consider how many people were in such fragile health that they would have likely died whether they contracted the Wuhan virus or just the usual flu. An analogy: If the wind causes an old, rickety barn to fall down, we don’t run around with our hair on fire screaming that the wind is destroying buildings.

The only way a virus stops is when there are no more hosts.

You remove hosts by making sure the virus dies as soon as it enters your system.

Unless and until that happens, the virus will continue to “rage.”

The lockdowns were meant to “flatten” the curve—to allow our medical systems to handle the inflow of patients.

In our area of MA, there is an increase in cases—because we are testing everything that moves. But in the two primary hospitals in town there are exactly 0 patients in intensive care because of Covid. And 6 patients hospitalized. In April/May, those numbers were pretty significant—with the ICUs almost filled up. And hundreds of patients in the hospitals.

With numbers such as those, there is no need for a lockdown.

Your numbers may vary in “your” state. The issue is that I don’t live in “your” state. That is why national policies on something like this are not good—they are stupid.

If the ICUs in your area are filling up—then close down stuff until it levels off. In other areas, where the system is not burdened...get back to BAU.

The average age of death from Covid in England and Wales is 82.4.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/12886370/average-age-covid-death-82-4-years-shield-vulnerable/

I don’t know the average life expectancy in that part of the world, but I’m venturing a wild guess that it’s at or below 82.4.

Covid has been the most potent weapon of mass destruction used in the last 70 years when all aspects of damage are measured (i.e., not just deaths).

What the hell is this stupid paper talking about.

Something just occurred to me.
You know how the Leftstream media is keeping Biden news from the public and the public is finding out about it anyway? Well, I do NOT view or listen to the LSM, therefore like Biden corruption, what they are talking about just escapes me.

I have NO idea if they are pushing and pushing the virus, therefore, checkmate, I don’t know what the Times is talking about. I’m serious.

Should I be concerned about getting the virus and dying??

Why do we even need to stop it for everybody? As far as a public health response it should be treated as outbreaks of the flu are treated. Those at highest risk should be encouraged to take preventative treatments (absent a vaccine) and limit their social interactions to decrease risk of exposure. The rest. Go live your life.
