Texas Supreme Court rejects Republican-led effort to throw out nearly 127,000 Harris County votes
KHOU 11 ^ | November 1, 2020

A handful of GOP activists and candidates had asked the state's highest civil court to rule Harris County's drive-thru voting locations illegal, and invalidate votes that have already been cast. The challenge has also been filed in federal court.

A legal cloud hanging over nearly 127,000 votes already cast in Harris County was at least temporarily lifted Sunday when the Texas Supreme Court rejected a request by several conservative Republican activists and candidates to preemptively throw out early balloting from drive-thru polling sites in the state's most populous, and largely Democratic, county.

The all-Republican court denied the request without an order or opinion, as justices did last month in a similar lawsuit brought by some of the same plaintiffs.

Not clear why those votes should not be counted.

People need to read then reply. This is no different than voting inside. You drive up to a poll worker in a tent, they as Texas law requires check your photo id then hand you a sterilized electronic voting machine identical to the one you would use inside again by law. You vote and they clean the machine. This is not drive up and drop off a paper ballot not even close. It’s an identical process to inside voting without having to expose yourself to other people.

The GOP allowed this drive in voting during the primary, but oppose it now?

Sorry, but this is in compliance with state law, barely, but it is.

Now it’s the GOP trying to disenfranchise voters.

Sigh....deep staters at it again

It’s a done deal drive up was only available during early voting. By having a tent and a certified poll worker who has control of the voting machine it’s legal and frankly a smart way of keeping people away from each other. Harris County is having a surge if kingflu again.

I agree with the conservatives who filed the suit, that this is an extension of “curbside voting” that per law is only available to handicapped individuals.

The proper remedy is probably to allow the votes, but at a minimum shut this operation down ASAP.

Where I voted it was outside under an open air steel building poll workers where 50 feet away and the machines were spaced out 20+ feet apart I had to get close to a single person to check in and get my paper slip with the bar codes. They had pens in two piles sterilized and used, then Q tips to push the touch screen with. The very same process would have worked so much better to just have US drive up check in and hand US the machine which is the size of a handheld tablet anyways. It was just a formality to walk the ten feet to the food out table then 40 feet to the machines

At my early voting site in North Carolina, drive up voting was allowed for handicap and elderly voters. From my observation of the process it was secure. The poll worker came out to the car and validated the person was registered. The person was given an absentee ballot. He/she filled it out inside the vehicle, put in an envelope, put in an outer envelope that the voter signed. When complete the voter rolled down the window, called to a poll worker who came over, took the ballot, and then placed the ballot in a box.

They can all be 100% fake votes for Biden and Trump will still win Texas by over 1 million votes.

Not clear why those votes should not be counted.

Never mind those, throw out the "sanctuary city" votes, and those where poll watchers were denied access.

And using fake drivers licences inside a library orba school with the exact same poll worker checking them would be different how? In Texas “observers” do NOT get to handle or be part of any processes pertaining to the voting they have to stand on the other side of the plexiglass shields and observe from at least 6 feet away. Don’t make a straw man out of something that in Texas at least is not an issue. Drive up voting is procedurally no different than walking up to the fold out card table with grandma Jones checking IDs and then walking ten feet to a machine. Where I voted they glanced at my DL and didn’t even want to see my passport which I offered first they didn’t know how to even enter the passport information into the system and I was “inside”
