San Francisco pausing its reopening plans due to increasing coronavirus case and hospitalization reports, early signs that the surge that has swept over most of the United States is starting to seep into the Bay Area.
Almost all activities that were scheduled to reopen or expand capacity on Tuesday are now delayed, city and public health officials said Friday. That includes indoor swimming pools, bowling alleys and gym locker rooms. Restaurants and places of worship must remain at 25% capacity instead of bumping up to 50% as planned.
Throughout our response to COVID-19, San Francisco demonstrated our willingness to make hard choices and take reopening carefully and deliberately, said Mayor London Breed in a statement. Given what were seeing in our numbers here as well as across the country and the world, we want to make sure we continue our cautious and deliberate approach.
businesses and activities that had been scheduled to open or expand Nov. 3 and are now paused include:
Indoor swimming pools, bowling alleys and gym locker rooms and showers.
Expanded capacity to 50%, or up to 200 people for indoor restaurants, movie theaters, museums and places of worship. Capacity remains at 25% or up to 100 people.
Expanded capacity up to 300 people for outdoor worship or political protests. Capacity remains at 200.
In addition to schools, a few other activities scheduled to reopen will not be affected by the pause. Those activities involve museum dining, film production, small outdoor live performances and real estate open houses.
The city had hoped to allow bars that do not serve food to open in outdoor settings in mid-November, but Colfax said that tentative plan has been paused, too.
The next couple of weeks will be really important to watch, he said.

But is it still ok to (fill in the blank), and (fill in the blank) in the streets??? Those activities spread disease too.
Marijauna shops & liquor stores unaffected.
Masks work, why don’t they mandate masks.
Problem solved.
Two points ...
First: but let your dog take a poop and you not pick it up...
Second: as for spreading disease so do homosexual sex parties.
Well, I guess these restrictions will cut back on large raves in general ... maybe even those catering to homosexuals.
And, SF has a homeless problem
How come the homeless aren't dropping like flies from the deadly Covid?
Just wondering...
Masks work??? Then how come they found that 80% of the cases are mask wearers?
You are funny.
And exactly my feelings. CA has been under a ‘mandatory mask’ edict since June. Hmmm... something not working. what could it be?
The only thing American tyrants (e.g., governors; mayors; unelected bureaucrats) enjoy more than their self-anointed omnipotent power is hurting people. There just is no denying the reality of these tyrants’ need to show off their power and what better way to do so is by beating down ordinary people (i.e., citizens).

People seem to think that during the time we live with restrictions or that we're locked away the virus will eventually give up and go away. Viruses don't "work" that way. Had we let this thing run its course this damn thing would have been over with months ago. Instead, since we cannot affect the area under the infection curve all we've done by controlling the magnitude of infection (the Y-axis), necessary for a few weeks at the outset, is extend the infection length of time (the X-axis) ... labeling these infections as "spikes" and other nonsensical fear terms.
No dead, this is a farce
Sarcasm. Gotcha!
The tyrants never plan to reopen and give up their power.
OMG, lol, you did!!!
