If they did, why are the number of cases increasing in the areas/regions requiring that they be worn in public?

Mandates don’t work. They just piss people off more than anything and then you get people who are defiant and look for ways to circumvent the requirement.

That says nothing about the effectiveness of the masks themselves. A properly made mask worn correctly reduces the volume and range of respiratory droplets, which is the primary transmission vector for SARS-CoV-2. Poorly made masks will be less effective at trapping the droplets or slowing their velocity. Poorly worn masks will provide very little help to anyone.

There’s also the issue of when and where. As President Trump has said on this issue, they’re helpful in the appropriate situation. Specifically, we’re talking about while indoors in a public place (e.g. grocery store, shopping mall, etc.). Outdoors there’s virtually no chance of transmission. At the beach? Ridiculous. In the park? Absurd. Unless you’re shoulder to shoulder with people at an Antifa riot, there’s so little risk of transmission outdoors that a mask isn’t doing anything anyway.

Masks and cases aren't related its manipulation of the PCR testing procedure and its results that show the cases coupled with greatly increased “testing”. That's why a Baboon, Papaya or a rock can be shown to be “positive”.

PCR tests were never meant to be a diagnostic tool. Its a lab test to amplify RNA fragments to amounts that are usable . This is from the person that invented it Kari Mullis
Cases do not equal infections. The PCR test cannot be used to diagnose an infectious disease

First all masks are not created equal. An industrial mask will work better than one made in Grandmas basement.

My question is - If everybody is wearing a mask these days when the go out to the store, because they work so well, why are cases (positive test sick or not sick) spiking?

I know a guy. 48 years old, big Liberal, always wears a mask, but has diabetes and does not monitor his sugar and likes his Mt Dew and Snickers bar and is a bit chubby. He has been in the hospital for 09 days w/ Covid.

So I do not think generic masks do anything but make people feel good. Social distancing, stay home if you are sick likely does work.

It is not transmitted off surfaces, but yet we disinfect everything. If I am a symptomatic am I still infectious? I don’t think you have enough viral load to be shedding the virus to others.

Cases are increasing in areas where things are opening up. Masks might help, but I haven’t heard much hard evidence that they are a game changer.
