The local, county health directors are the biggest menace. Mine is way in over his head. He’s claiming 4 feet between desks at school is “required” and that the “state” requires it—but the state requires no such thing and nothing is in writing.

Now this health director is sending “secret” emails to the Superintendent of my son’s district. The Super won’t release them.

The county health directors are largely in over their heads. Mine is just a family doctor—not elected and not an epidemiologist or an expert in any way.

We (parents trying to reopen schools) are going to file a FOIA request.

Bureaucrats are going to “bureaucrat.”

The public health agencies are full of bureaucrats from top to bottom. They derive their power from other bureaucrats higher on the totem pole than them (the state). Many of the state bureaucrats (blue states mostly) justify their actions by the doom doctors in DC and the media.

This is why bureaucracies with a rigid chain of command (like the USSR or CCP or the postal service) ultimately fail. There is no room for innovation or self-initiation.

This is on a macro scale why the military forces of bureaucracies fail. They suck because junior people are incapable of making a decision and they spend more time looking for top-cover or protecting their own ass than they do analyzing a problem and formulating an action.

Without “commanders intent” and initiative, the bureaucrat inevitably seeks higher guidance to cover his/her own ass. It is the most inefficient model in human history even without wholesale corruption.
