I find those numbers highly dubious. If true, they must have a very deadly strain of the virus circulating.
They had worse, at the beginning (almost 1500 dead in a single day), but then it went way down over the summer, to almost zero. It seems that for much of the world, their lockdowns may have bought time, but with no virus or good treatment available, it just delayed them getting slammed, relative to us. I think the virus, over there, is finishing off the low-hanging targets (i.e., elderly, etc.), while we got much of that out of the way earlier.
