If people wear a mask in a supermarket, but then go to a bar and talk loudly over the music, where are they going to spread? Also, masks probably don't stop superspreaders from spreading in some settings (call center, meat plant, or any other indoor interaction for more than 10-20 minutes. They probably cut down the spread in shorter interactions. But those are low risk anyway and masks only stop a portion of droplets.
Closing bars would help the most, but we have to live. The bottom line is we have to accept the risk and live with the disease. There's no harm in wearing masks but probably no point in doing so in most cases.
