“Looking at the intent of the framers when there were no assault weapons is very inappropriate in an age of mass shootings”

typical leftist drivel...like saying that the 1st amendment only applies to fountain pens.

… the cause of modern-day gun violence.…

The cause of modern-day gun violence is not the number or nature of guns, but the number and nature of the nuts who are still on the street untreated for their mental diseases. Look at the laws and policies of the other nuts who either let them out or let them stay out.

She doesn’t give any attention to the cause of modern-day gun violence.

Modern day democrats are the cause there. Maybe they should be regulated.

The author does not understand the role of the courts. It is their job to interpret the Constitution precisely as the framers intended. If—a big if—there is a need to change provisions of the Constitution these efforts need to be addressed to Congress and the states, not to the court.

Picked up a tactical shotgun, a dreaded AR-15 and a pistol over the last 3 months. Now - if I could only find some ammo - especially 9 mm - for less that $1.25/round. 😒

“Barrett is an originalist who believes the Constitution must be interpreted exactly as the Founders intended.”

You mean we can’t twist the meaning of the language to get our desired result?

It’s a real bummer when the Church of What’s Happening Now can’t meet.

Time to start filing some cases, boys and girls! Who’s ready to challenge FOPA, the GCA, and the NFA?? Get ready for all restrictions on carry to go right out the window.

Damn right it’s open season on (unconstitutional) gun restrictions!

Projecting pinkos. She will rule on the law, as written, in the Constitution.
Pinkos don’t like it, but it’s how it is.

In the founders’ day, muskets WERE the preeminent “assault weapon”.

With the Congressional power to issue letters of marque and reprisal to allow US citizens to make war on our enemues, they didn't expect mere muskets. They counted on privately owned cannons, the 18th century weapon of mass destruction.

Not killed by gunfire during all the daily mass shootings. She’s lucky.

when there were no assault weapons

I hate the stupidity of these people. The Revolutionary War was fought with assault weapons. The assault weapons used in the Civil War killed more American soldiers than any other war.

And the Founders fully intended for the citizenry to have the same weapons as the govt. How else could we defend against a rogue, totalitarian govt such as the democrats envision?

True. They believe in this “living breathing” constitution, which they interpret liberally to supposedly take into account changing times. But in so doing, that means you can twist the constitution to mean whatever you want it to mean.

Bottom line in my opinion, is that these radicals want to use the courts to impose their “utopia” on all of us, through forcing policies on us which would not be passed through the legislative process.

If they could pass their preferred policies through the legislative process, wouldn’t they have been doing so, rather than commandeering the courts to do that job????

I hope so.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again.

ALL. GUN. LAWS. ARE. AN. INFRINGEMENT.

I wanna go to Walmart and see a vending machine with pictures of an M134, an M60, MG42 (always wanted one) etc, and I wanna insert some money, hit a button and vend me a belt fed machine gun like it was a damn pepsi.

Phony fears about Democrats are already leading to a pre-election spike in gun sales.

What I've seen and heard this year from Democrats is quite real, Eleanor. But thanks for cluing me in with your first sentence so I didn't waste time on the rest of your lies.

They are (AR?) so freaking dumb they don't even have a CLUE what might be an "assault" weapon.

What's more, the great, great majority of firearms used in killings, whether legal or illegal killings, are cheap handguns, hunting rifles, hobby guns, many, many weapons from bygone years...

I mean, sure, there are plenty of glocks or sigs or kimbers that are misused...but far and away more are comparable to the dinged up .38 that has slept away in the closet for 15 years. A guy or gal who cares for and about his/her firearms is not going to waste all that quality and reassurance by hauling out M1A to shoot her neighbor over her noisy dog or noisy spouse.
