It means the AP wrote their article before Justice Clarence Thomas was announced to be the one swearing her into the SCOTUS.

I’m sure John Roberts thought that if he rejected giving the judicial oath to stop her from being seated that he would be an arrow in Nancy’s quiver. Actually surprised that he agreed to seat her.
Well not really. She really got sworn in by Clarence Thomas. Robert got the cold shoulder.
