If it has fuel, air and spark, it HAS to run.

Oh.My.Gosh. Six inches of ice is devastating. Trees down—especially bad if they still have leaves on them, power lines, etc.

We toss patio/pool furniture into the pool. Safest location, and it comes out as clean as can be. I honestly have never thought of that, although that is the place it would likely end up anyway ;-).

This is really my own fault. I bought it right after Opal in 1997. Are we related???? LOL. I've actually given up even thinking of trying to start mine.

Skip emptying the pool—drop in your furniture, and make sure all of your electronics are charging to the max. Enjoy a nice dinner, make a pot of coffee later and put it into a pre-warmed thermos. Bags of ice...

Not emptying pool, just dropping water level enough to handle the expected rainfall.

make sure all of your electronics are charging to the max. Phones, kindle and laptops are all fully charged and ready.
The kindle is most important as reading is a great way to pass the time.
Also, both trucks have 120 electrical outlets, so I filled both gas tanks. I can use them as "generators" for short periods of time - have actually run the Fridge off of them as a test before. Plus they both have charge ports for phone etc. too.

All I can do now is hope we’re far enough inland and Alabama Power has done a good job keeping the power lines free of trees and branches.
I see them doing so all the time. Hope it is enough. You know how wild things grow quickly around here: kudzu, Japanese honeysuckle, trumpet vine, Bradford pear, Chinese privet...

I am inland - Montgomery, Al. Other than rain and minor winds, the only times we are truly impacted are the late season fast movers that hold their strength.

I once used my truck outlet to charge a dead golf cart battery. Very handy thing to have around.

The wind field models show agreement on two criteria...the two systems are not looking to merge, and the centroid of heaviest winds move directly over Atlanta.
There’s some disagreement as to timing, but generally over the next 24 hours.
I am seeing video of ice accumulations to two inches, but not six. What may be happening there is that reports may not be differentiating between glaze ice on limbs and wires, and mixed sleet/snow on the ground.
With the leaves still on the trees, even half an inch of glaze carries as much weight as much thicker coatings on bare limbs. Videos, naturally the most sensational, show regions of damage with 75 to 100 percent of trees having major damage.
