There’s a misunderstanding about absolutist regimes that I shared until I started delving deeper. It’s that the surface obsequious behavior is more than skin deep, that they’re vast ant hills marching to the beat of the queen ant. In reality, the individual players are each biding their time waiting for their moments. The servility is a pose to be maintained until the tables are turned.

The bit about the People’s Armed Police surrounding the consulate with armored vehicles is something I recall from an article during the imbroglio. It was a pretty big deal. I thought they were going in to grab him. But Biden may have earned his keep, and then some. If anything, they’re underpaying him.
