When the Peter, Paul & Mary version of that tune was riding the charts, it was my favorite song. However, I didn't understand the real meaning of the lyrics. Later, I found out that the "wind" in question is Communism and the song appears to be inspired by Mao Tse-tung's proclamation in 1957 that "the east wind is prevailing over the west wind."
That’s an interesting interpretation.
