LTJG Artem Sherbinin (O2) will never make Commander, much less Captain or Admiral.

Our navy is able to sustain heightened presence when required. It’s always been that way.

Of course, there’s a price to pay.

This man is not command material.

He probably knew he was committing career suicide the moment he attached his name to this article.

Our navy is able to sustain heightened presence when required. It’s always been that way.

I remember deploying when we were engaged in combat operations over Iraq and Afghanistan, dropping actual no-sh*t bombs on the enemy. We still managed a port call every 3-4 weeks. We did seven month deployments. COMPTUEX had a port visit in Ft. Lauderdale and we went home for a month or so after to rest before the long cruise. After a seven month deployment, we went home, remained combat-ready in a "surge" phase for a couple of months, and then entered a slower-tempo maintenance phase for the next couple of years until the next operational "workup" cycle started anew again.

It's not like that today. Deployments are longer. In-between maintenance cycles are shorter. Port visits are gone (real port visits, not "beer on the pier" in Duqm, Oman). And we're not dropping bombs on anyone. Sailors are "ROM"ming pier side for 3 weeks due to Covid, calling their families from their cell phones, and then getting underway for a 4-5 week long COMPTUEX training exercise. Deployment then starts immediately thereafter without a pause. The ship turns towards the open sea and steams ahead.

Agree! If I was his CO, I’d have him transferred somewhere.

Too many LTJGs have an inflated opinion of themselves.

Some learn soon that they’re not so great, after a run-in with a Chief with 4-6 gold stripes on his sleeve.

I have been thinking about this LT(JG) for a while and wondered about his background.

He attended The Naval Academy, 2014-2018, graduated with a B.S. in Political Science, he was given an award for “Leadership in Fostering Humane Studies” and designated as a Surface Warfare Officer. (self study from a CD is the way it is learned now, I’ve read.)

2018-2019 He attended Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, studied National Security Policy. Received a Masters Degree.

His selfie: “I am a Naval Officer, innovator, writer and national security leader.

I am passionate about taking the Department of Defense into the future with the emerging technologies, A reinvented culture and better talent management.”

January 2019- present. His first ship The USS Peralta (DDG 115).

Searched for his surname, “Sherbinin” Result shows only 212 persons with that surname Mainly in Russia.

Languages spoken: Russian and English

Is he a deep plant like the Ukraine Lt Col that assisted in the attempted removal of POTUS? Or like the Muslem Army Maj that killed many Army men in a base here in the U.S.?

He seems to have more articles published in the same publication. He seems to be writing a lot of personal opinions and book knowledge, but little of real world experience.

And for Genuine Navy Chief, What was your rating? Chief what? Knowing that would help others understand your perspective of what is going on. YNC?, BMC? ABC?

Thanks.
