Heck, we’ve all had to explain to our kids how to stay safe and what to do with police and customs agents at the border.
When they ask where you were born, you do NOT reply with a snarky “In a hospital”, unless you want your trip to Canada short circuited.
And how many threads have we seen here that tell us to keep our hands onthe steering wheeland don’t reach for anything?
I always take off my sunglasses when dealing with LE or customs agents so I can make eye contact.
Any sane parent will tell their kids that, even Police will say that if kids ask them and explain why. If you actually think about it and tell you kids WHY it ends the “muy racist police” narrative, can’t have that.
I got pulled over in a not so great part of of a nearby city. Cop hit light and siren, I turned on the right turn signal and pulled over as soon as I had a safe area about 200-300 ft ahead as it was a one lane rd with on street parking. Put car in park, kept hands visible and waited for the officer. He explained the reason for the stop and asked for paperwork, I explained where it was, and said to grab it. Simple.
Whenever I get stopped, I try to be polite. The times the police were harsh with me is because I was a smart arse. I keep my hands on the wheel. I tell the officer what I am going to do before I do it. I answer the questions, no matter how stupid I think they may be or intrusive. One more thing, which I learned from a U.S. Navy Chief - I make sure the officer sees my retired military ID. Being nice and a veteran pays off.
