Not from the corona virus. Before CV there was a major outbreak of swine fever in China. They had to destroy a large portion of their herd. THAT is a huge deal.
The second issue is the impact of the constant tropical storms in the breadbasket area in China. The fields are flooded and the crops failed all over the place.
They have an awful lot of mouths to feed. Their government is buying just about any live pig in the world. They are stockpiling grain for the coming season.
There are little noises around if you look for them. I am sure we will hear more after the election.
That pork virus attacked the young piglets that were supposed to replace pork harvested.
Estimates are that the infection rate killed off 65- 80% of the piglet stocks.
That is why there is reduced availability of "Smithfield Farms" pork products and bacon available now in the US.
Of course, if the Three Gorges Dam decides to go, things will get even worse.
