I recall in 1980, I struck up a conversation with a stranger in Madison, Wisconsin.

I asked what he thought of the coming presidential election. He said Carter would easily win, because Reagan was so far to the Right.

I told him Reagan seemed centrist to me.

Madison was and is a hotbed of leftism in the USA.
