The San Francisco Police Department has arrested a suspect on hate crime charges for allegedly attacking the organizer of a pro-Trump free speech rally over the weekend.
Adora Anderson, 35, was arrested on Sunday and booked on charges of mayhem and hate crime enhancement, according to a police statement.
The assault allegedly occurred before the start of the rally at the city's United Nations Plaza. The victim told officers that he had been punched in the face by an unknown suspect, causing him to lose two teeth.

What happened to “battery”? People used to be charged with “assault” even when physical contact was not made. The inclusion of “battery” in the charge implied that physical contact of some type was made.
One would assume that physical contact had been made based on the knocked out teeth.
This is a 1950’s interpretation of the law based on lots of old TV shows like Perry Mason. Was this ever a correct interpretation of the law or has the law substantially changed?

For the life of me I cannot understand how ANY of these Local, State and Federal Hate Crime Laws have ever passed Constitutional muster.
Assault and Battery Charges are appropriate and the DA can show that Hatred was one of the Motives during Trial.
