In the 1960s going into the 1970s, DX gas stations and I believe also Sunoco stations had multi grade pumps that had 5 octane grades from 87 to 105 octane.
One of my uncles was the mechanical engineer that had the patent for the gas pump proportioning valve in the pump that ratioed the storage tank 87 and 105 octane to give the midgrades. Cool gas pumps... Single hose nozzle and the grade selected by a rotary dial on the pump face.

My old 1967 427 Corvette felt like that was next as I passed 135 mph. That nose of the car getting in the way of your view down the road was the secondary warning.

At 200 mph, by the time your brain recognizes the image of the obstacle on the road directly in front of you, you have already run over or into it.

“I wonder if they give tours.”
Sure, Jerod Shelby would be happy to give you a tour with a $500,000 deposit.

“Crap Ive had Corvettes that run 175 on street gas. In traffic.”
People don’t believe me when I tell them the speed my ‘59 vette would do. Speedometer read up to 165. With a 302 Z-28, a Rochester Quadrajet with Headman headers, I pushed the needle off the gauge.
Wish I never sold that one.
