SSC announced a customer-owned Tuatara set a new production-vehicle land-speed record of 316.11 mph.
The run took place on Oct. 10 on a seven-mile stretch of State Route 160 in Nevada and required a two-way average with both runs within an hour of each other to account for wind and gradients; a public road; street tires; street fuel; and satellite tracking.
The car was stock...with a four-point seating harness and no roll cage...the team overfilled the Cup 2 tires with nitrogen...the active rear wing was locked in top-speed mode so it couldn't retract or angle for braking if anything were to go wrong. It was set to Track mode, which enabled a lower ride height...the car didn't scrape the road during the attempt.
Webb set three other records on Oct. 10: fastest flying mile on a public road at 313.12 mph, fastest flying kilometer on a public road at 321.35 mph, and highest speed achieved on a public road at 331.15 mph.
Only 100 examples of the Tuatara will be built at the automaker's facility in Richland, Washington, and each one starts from $1.9 million. The hypercar is powered by an SSC-developed 5.9-liter twin-turbo V-8 that produces 1,350 horsepower on 91 octane and 1,750 hp on E85. The engine spins to 8,800 rpm and sends power to the rear wheels via a 7-speed automated manual transmission that can shift in less than 100 milliseconds. The transmission is built by Italy's CIMA. The Tuatara's dry weight is only 2,750 pounds.
...the Tuatara has a coefficient of drag rating of 0.279, which is among the lowest of any high-performance car in production. The core of the hypercar is a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis and it also has a carbon-fiber body, both of which SSC constructs in-house.

$1.9 million, sure. They charge extra for the things you want to add, like a towing package.
Whoops!
All that time, effort, money, and performance, but it’s still ugly.
I will stick with my classics, all of which are plenty capable of getting me arrested as a tiny fraction of the price.
ONLY 125??? FRiend, Ive had rental cheapos at more than that. Or so Ive heard...

Can I get one with a tow hitch?
Don’t think those guys are thinking ‘bout safety. Not at 300 mph. Lots of kinetic energy to dissapate..I wonder how long that engine will live at 8800 rpm.
Rich idiots, er sheikhs, in Dubai and Abu Dhabi will be snapping then up
That’s fast but some rednecks in Texas did 300mph in the standing mile in a 2007 Ford GT 40:

125? Crap Ive had Corvettes that run 175 on street gas. In traffic.
I sold them to stay out of jail.
In 1979 I had a 73 Chevelle SS with a dual quad small block that ran low 10s in the quarter.
Then premium leaded hit $0.75...... 4 mpg just wasnt affordable. (Neither were the tires...)
i looked up florida man, now i’m a fan
5.4 L V-8. Twin-Turbo 45# boost ethanol. est. 2500 hp.
Easy to get airborne at 300+ mph.
But, but, elactric Golf Katz are just sooooo fast.
I found those guys when I Googled the name.
Not exactly a Cobra or Mustang, is it?
In Richland? I figured it had to be the Seattle area.
I’m driving through the tri-cities at the end of this month. I wonder if they give tours.
Thanks. That’s weird — I copied the link from the page you provided. I clicked on my link and it took me to a page I had never visited before. How odd.
“But, but, elactric Golf Katz are just sooooo fast.”
I just realized your problem. Some 70 year old hippie in a Prius embarrassed you at the redlight.

Well, this creature has a third eye, so I guess that beats both!
