I don’t disagree. Not firing him despite repeated acts of insubordination makes Trump look weak and ineffective.

Douglas MacArthur got fired for just ONE act of insubordination. And he was Douglas Freaking MacArthur.

After he wins, as a lame duck, Trump finally gets to fire Fauci, Wray, and possibly Barr if he doesn’t straighten up. Move a lot of these Fed agencies out of DC, like Agriculture to the midwest, scatter DOJ, Energy to Texas,Interior to the West, etc. Make it hard on the DC lobbyists to visit them

“But there’s a bigger bomb if you fire him.”

Trump is sort of the bombmaker here, in that he's given Fauci more exposure in the media than Fauci himself. When Fauci first crossed the line Trump could have easily and quietly had him reassigned & replaced, just like many other POTUS' before him have done with many other federal employees. It would've been pressworthy for maybe a couple days at most, and the WH could counter with a media blitz on his wonderful new replacement. But Trump doesn't do things quietly. And sometimes, as in this case, his bombast backfires and puts him in a tight place.
